ComaFruits & SOBEMA

ComaFruits was created in 2009 to enhance the value of the huge and largely unexploited organic mango catchment in Mali. Mangoes from Mali are probably among the most tasty, refined mangoes in the world. However, Mali is a landlocked country so farmers desperately need the support of a processing plant to take advantage of this natural blessing.

ComaFruits built a state-of-the-art plant to process mangoes into purée, frozen cubes and dried mangoes. ComaFruits is based in Selingué, 200 km South from Bamako, in one of the main mango production basins and developed a strong outgrowers’ network of more than 1’000 producers. ComaFruits offers a reliable outlet for mango producers, absorbing a growing amount of fresh mango that would otherwise be wasted. While the mango season lasts only three months, the company works all year round with smallholders and cooperatives. Its dedicated team provides technical assistance to Farmers to promote best practices in mango orchards, and trains them to get the Organic, Rain Forest and Fair Trade certifications.

SOBEMA is a pioneering Malian company that aims at providing local markets with a range of different beverages, based on locally sourced ingredients. With this investment, SOBEMA will launch the production of a broad range of beverages, from mineral water to fruit juices and flavoured drinks.

SOBEMA is leveraging strong synergies with Comafruits, its sister company. By sharing its processing facility in Sélingué with ComaFruits, SOBEMA fosters the diversification strategy of the firms that will be able to process a diverse range of fruits and vegetables (e.g. goyaba, oranges, cashew apple, tomatoes, pineapple, pomegranate, ginger, etc.) with only little amendments to be made to the machinery.

Moringa’s investment in ComaFruits and SOBEMA is aimed at increasing and broadening their product range, hence creating the opportunity for farmers to further diversify their production and income. It will support the dissemination of agroforestry and sustainable land use practices as farmers will have a secured outlet for all their production. Farmers will benefit from increased technical and financial support to fully adopt diversification practices that can enhance both their livelihoods and the environment.


B-BOVID Ltd is a Ghanaian UN-Award winning farming and processing palm oil enterprise created in 2014 and based on social entrepreneurship principles and agroforestry practices. B-BOVID produces crude and kernel palm oil with 98% of its palm oil fruits supply coming from more than 2,000 smallholders farmers. Company owns a demonstration plantation showcasing oil palm agroforestry practices and has already performed training of several thousand farmers and students to climate smart agriculture. B-BOVID’s unique model in West Africa promotes farmers revenues increase and diversification, social inclusion and low environmental impacts. 

Ghanaian vegetable oil consumption is largely made of crude and kernel palm oil with oil palm being a traditional crop and still the second most important tree crop in Ghana. However, local demand is rising and Ghanaian smallholders lack adequate agronomic, logistics and financial support as well as a reliable industrial market for selling and efficiently processing their fruits. B-BOVID aims at answering the need to accelerate the development of productive oil palm sector focused on smallholders intensified and sustainable production.

In that respect, B-BOVID’s business model has the ambition to become a figurehead for sustainable palm oil production. 

The Moringa investment is dedicated to enhance and strengthen the company’s unique out-growers based polyculture model, with the objective to engage up to 4,000 farmers within the next years. Farmers’ yield intensification, rehabilitation of old plantations and fallow lands as well as tree maintenance and tree planting will be a forefront concern. The Moringa investment will also help modernizing B-BOVID Ltd’s manufacturing plant and expand its production capacity to further meet growing local and regional fat demand while offering farmers a secured market for their palm oil fruits all-year long.

Jus Délice

Jus Délice is a Togolese company created in 2017 to build a juice processing plant in Togo supplied by a large network of organic producers who traditionally cultivate pineapples and other tropical fruits in small plots. Developed in 2012 by the leading Togolese organic exporter, Label d’Or, Jus Délice’s strong outgrower network gathers today more than 500 farmers organized in cooperatives and applying agroecological practices. The ambition of Jus Délice is to become a leader and market reference of organic juice production in the region.

Togo offers suitable conditions for organic pineapple production, ensuring consistent high quality supply almost all year round. The Togolese traditional pineapple variety “Sugarloaf” offers valuable taste attributes, differing from the conventional pineapple varieties, and Jus Délice plans to export its premium-quality and organic pure pineapple juice to Europe, the largest market for pineapple juice (50% of the global consumption).

The annual Togolese pineapple production amounts to 600’000 tons, mostly produced by smallholders who are not always able to reach markets for their fresh fruits. Jus Délice’s partner, Label d’Or, supports farmers to get organic certification for their fresh fruits and brings them technical assistance while Jus Délice enhances farmers agroforestry practices and offers them a reliable outlet, thus adding value to the significant Togolese pineapple production in the maritime region.

The Moringa investment is dedicated to build the juice processing unit, further develop the outgrower network with Label d’Or and enhance agroforestry models thanks to the dedicated team which provides technical assistance to producers.
